In the mid 1960s, fashion inspiration took an unparalleled turn from the refined aristocratic to the street styles of the hippies. Found vintage garments and accessories were an essential part of the fashionable Bohemian look, and carpet bags and patchwork figured heavily in the mix of styles. The floral carpet pattern of these shoes is a direct response to that aesthetic. Clunky heels, wide toes, and oversize eyelets grew out of the child-like fashions of the mid 1960s, and remained important style features through the early 1970s.
