This day dress is of interest for it displays the influence of regional costume. A folklore look, this has been a common design inspiration since the nineteenth century. After the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, Russian émigrés fled to Paris and found work embroidering their traditional designs for fashion houses. Jean Patou and Coco Chanel were two of the designers that helped to promote this new trend, which became very popular in both Europe and the United States.
