French-born designer Nicolas Ghesquière began his career with an internship at Agnès B. at age fourteen. Subsequently, he worked at Jean Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler, and Callaghan before accepting a position at Balenciaga at the age of twenty-two. He was appointed creative director of the house in 1997, a position he held until 2012. In 2013 he was named artistic director of women’s fashion at Louis Vuitton. Ghesquière applies his own modern aesthetic and technical ingenuity to the vocabulary of fashion, combining traditional techniques and innovative technologies in his experimentations with fabrics, patterns, and silhouettes.
