Banquet of the Gods

Designer Guglielmo della Porta Italian
Probably cast by Antonio Gentili (Antonio da Faenza) Italian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 536

This relief replicates a composition in bronze by Guglielmo della Porta (before 1506–1577) made between about 1552 and 1555 as part of a series of sixteen subjects drawn from Ovid's Metamorphoses. After della Porta's death, these were repeated in precious materials by Gentili, who obtained the casting models from della Porta's son in 1585.
