This plate is part of a dessert service made for Prince William, Duke of Clarence and Saint Andrews, who reigned as William IV from 1830 until 1837. The decoration consists of the princes' coat of arms and the jewel and star of the Orders of the Garter and of the Thistle. The interstices between the twining blue and green ribbons on the rim are decorated with roses crossed by thistles, emblems of England and Scotland.
