Chessmen (32)

19th century
Not on view
Rings and beads, size, and shape distinguish the different ranks of the pieces in this Algerian set. There appears some relationship to European chessmen, in the towerlike rooks, and especially in the knights with double horse heads such as appear in some German sets of the nineteenth century.
