Promenade in a Barge
One scene from the series Les Voyages d’Anthénor, a travelogue by Étienne-François de Lantier (1734-1826) first published in 1798. The author describes a remarkable journey through the ancient world as seen through the eyes of Antenor, a young Athenian who lived during the time of Socrates and Plato. The entire series of six scenes forms a panorama, one of the favored settings for later Neoclassical room decoration.
