This modest example embodies the characteristic vigor of Spanish fan making. The humorous hand-painted image on the parchment leaf is signed by a Spanish fan-painter, Higuerau, who has replicated and extended the popular oil painting, "The Choice of a Model" (1868-74) by Mariano Fortuny y Marsal.
