Vase

Designer T.A.C. Colenbrander Dutch
Manufacturer Rozenburg Plateelfabriek Dutch

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 556

Spooky faces and spiky foliage decorate this tall vase. Hired to make Delftware tiles at the Rozenburg factory, Colenbrander radically changed its output. His quirky designs drew upon Iznik floral motifs. The gridded pattern recalls his early training in architecture.

Vase, T.A.C. Colenbrander (Dutch, Doesburg 1841–1930 Lagg-Keppel), Lead-glazed earthenware, Dutch, The Hague
