Terracotta lekythos (oil flask)

Attributed to the Quadrate Painter
ca. 420 BCE
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171
Woman and young warrior at a tomb

The warrior is equipped with a helmet and spear. Of particular note is marvelous fluency in the rendering of the woman, caught as she sinks to her knees with her arms raised in grief over her head.
