Athena between Herakles and Iolaos; woman or goddess in front of Zeus or Poseidon

In Attic vase-painting, large vases appear with greater frequency at the end of the fifth century B.C. than at any other time since the Geometric period. While some artists fill the space with many smaller figures, the Talos Painter is among those who work on a large scale, depicting figures of great presence and nobility.
