Terracotta kylix (drinking cup)
Exterior, palmettes
The black-figure technique and its variant, silhouette, were practiced well into the fifth century B.C. in Boeotia. Their survival probably facilitated the appearance of a full-blown figural style in the so-called Cabiric vases of the fourth century B.C. A fine example ( 1971.11.1 ) is exhibited on the main floor, just west of the Sardis column in a case devoted to Greek theater.
