Terracotta bell-krater (bowl for mixing wine and water)

Greek, Boeotian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Obverse, two youths with thyrsoi (fennel stalks topped with ivy)
Reverse, youth with a thyrsos, youth with a cup (?)

In mainland Greece, thyrsoi tend to be associated with maenads. Since the youths wear wreaths, they are clearly in a Dionysiac mode.
