[Man with Bridle]

Doris Ulmann American

Not on view

New Yorker Ulmann traveled throughout the South, visiting African American communities. Her photographs display her interest in the preservation of rapidly changing cultures and show a profound respect for her subjects. Man with Bridle is a dignified portrait of a man whose weathered hands rest on a wood post. Gazing out at the viewer, he stands in front of a barn with a horse bridle hanging on a nearby peg.
