Ford Motor Company, Rouge Industries

Otto Rotch American
1925
Not on view
In contrast to Sheeler's carefully selected details of the interior of Ford's manufacturing complex on the River Rouge near Detroit, Michigan, Rotch attempted to capture the massive expanse of the facilities in a panoramic view. Although this image conveys the impressive scale of its subject, the images Sheeler produced are notable for their memorable juxtapositions of man and machine toiling in the belly of this sprawling beast.
