Sun of the Midi

Edmund Kesting German

Not on view

When a print is solarized during development, the areas of photographic tone reverse along its edges. By using this technique, Kesting made the bathers' bodies appear incandescent. His nonsolarized prints from the same negative do not evoke the penetrating heat of the sun so viscerally.
