Palazzo Pisani Moretta Venezia III
One of the earliest students of Bernd and Hilla Becher at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Höfer has for more than three decades photographed the empty spaces inside public buildings-from lecture halls and museums to lobbies and waiting rooms-that together reveal what has been described as a "psychology of social architecture." This luminous image is from a recent series devoted to Venetian interiors, such as this room in a fifteenth-century palazzo.
