Self-Portrait

1861
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 692
On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum.
Marville made this self-portrait at a moment of increased success and great ambition. In contrast to the self-conscious dandy of
his early self-portraits, he appears proud yet reserved: the consummate professional has replaced the romantic artist.
