A Russian Devotee
Léon Bakst Russian, born present day Belarus
Not on view
As much as Bakst designs for the Ballets Russes display his wild imagination, much of it was informed by his close study of people and nature. This penetrating portrait of a Russian devotee has so far not been linked to a particular production of the Ballets Russes. More likely, it represents one of his close studies of people and nature that inspired his work when trying to invoke a specific time and place for a certain performance.
