Study of Two Women
Etienne Jeaurat French
Not on view
Jeaurat was one of Saint-Aubin’s mentors at the Académie Royale. He had been accepted as a history painter but earned his reputation with subjects of outdoor life in Paris. Unlike Saint-Aubin, whose figures draw on the full expanse of Parisian society, Jeaurat’s repertoire centered primarily on those of lower social rank. His often tawdry scenes elicit more laughter than empathy.
