Kneeling Draped Male Figure
Jean Guillaume Moitte French
Not on view
A Neoclassical sculptor, Moitte trained at the Académie de France in Rome from 1771 to 1773, and after the Revolution would go on to fulfill commissions for the French Republic and, later, Napoleon. This incisive study in red chalk reflects the type of draped figure studies French students made in Rome. It also anticipates the relief-like compositions of classical subjects for which he would become well known.
