Bust of Man Facing Left

Baron Dominique Vivant Denon French

Not on view

The attribution of this and a related sheet (60.620.77) to Dominique Vivant Denon was made by Marie-Anne Dupuy-Vachey in 2015 (see references). They are from a large series of drawn portraits made by Denon in Naples. In style, they reflect his training in the workshop of Augustin de Saint-Aubin (1736-1807). The identity of the sitter has been lost, but the number in purple ink suggests that there was once a list with sitter's names.
