Pickford Robert Waller British
Relates to James McNeill Whistler American

Not on view

An admirer of James McNeill Whistler, the designer Waller here copies the latter's butterfly symbol transformed into a badge or pin. Inscriptions on a related drawing (1985.1165.181) indicate that the artist presented the ornament to Waller's wife at a private view to thank her for flowers.
