This drawing was made to illustrate "The Fall of the Spider Man," a story in Canadian Fairy Tales, which was based on the folk tales of native Americans and published by the Canadian politician and writer Cyrus Macmillan in 1922. Here, the Spider Man has "said farewell to the Sky Country and let himself down to Earth by one of his own strands of yarn."
