Studio d'Arts Décoratifs: 1e Série-4e Série

[ca. 1930]
Not on view
Pochoir pattern book with 4 sets of plates bound, with Art Deco textile designs created by Nicolas Sorokine and published in Paris by Armand Guérinet, probably in the second half of the 1920s or the early 1930s. Each series in the book consists of a title page with index and several numbered plates, each with numerous designs, bound with dark blue linen boards. The designs contain a variety of geometric motifs, birds and flowers, all typical of the Art Deco style, which was characterized by its eclecticism, drawing from a variety of sources that sought to combine old European design traditions with the modern style diffused by avant-garde art, while also reflecting the romantic fascination with early Egyptian and Meso-American "exotic" cultures promoted by archaeological discoveries of the times.

The sets of designs are titled as follows:
-- 1e Série: "Tissues," designed by Nicolas Sorokine, title page and 16 leaves numbered 1-16 with multiple designs per leaf;
-- 2e Série: "Tissues," designed by Nicolas Sorokine, title page and 12 leaves numbered 1-12 with multiple designs per leaf;
-- 3e Série: "Tissues," designed by Nicolas Sorokine, title page and 12 leaves numbered 1-12 with multiple designs per leaf;
-- 4e Série: "Motifs inédits pour toutes Industries d'Art," designed by Hennequin-Rêveur, title page and 12 leaves numbered 1-12 with multiple designs per leaf.
