The art dealer depicted here is a caricature of Charles W. Kraushaar, brother of John F. Kraushaar.

The print was advertised in the 1944 catalogue of the Society of Independent Artists. Donated by Sloan, it was offered for sale at $5, for the benefit of the Society. At most, only 14 prints were sold, see: Morse 1969, p. 268.
