Hogarth made this print early in his career to illustrate a travel book by the French author Aubry de La Mottraye. A map of Stockholm appears at center over a compass. A border is decorated with coins, medals and runic characters. Above are the front and back of a medallion commemorating the funeral of Charles XII of Sweden. Below are the fronts and backs of coins adorned with the heads of Charles's sister and successor Ulrika Eleonora and her consort Frederick of Hesse.
