Not on view

An American Civil War scene based on a painting (1861) by Thomas Nast. Two Union soldiers stand to the right of a blazing orange campfire, where two small pigs are roasting; behind the fire at center, several other soldiers are gathered and they also stare at the fire (awaiting supper). At left, a cook crouches beside the campfire and holds a frying pan over the flames. Behind the cook at left, another soldier, holding a rifle, walks by; beyond him are a pair of walking soldiers. In the right background, beyond a pair of seated men (one gesturing with his right arm) are rows of tents. At the right side of the image, in the distance, a mountain range is silhouetted against a twilight sky.
