This supposed portrait of John Milton derives from a miniature owned by the artist Sir Joshua Reynolds with an inscription from back of miniature transcribed on an oval below. Even in Reynolds' day the sitter was often identified as John Thurloe. Scenes from Paradise Lost have been added below here to strengthen the connection to Milton.
