Hans Vlieghe. Letter to Walter Liedtke. October 20, 1980, supports an attribution to the workshop of Teniers.

Walter A. Liedtke. Flemish Paintings in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York, 1984, vol. 1, pp. 267–68; vol. 2, pl. 103, observes that "the execution is similar to—if less refined than—that of Teniers, himself, and the painting could very well have been made in his studio"; suggests a date before 1650 on the basis of the coloring.
