Not on view

Little is known about the origin of this extraordinary textile, made by the Paris firm of J. Claude Frères. It is possible that the organic quality of its design derives from a fascination with widely published contemporaneous discoveries in medical science—namely the development of serums and antibiotics—as the decorative motifs resemble enlargements of microscopic specimens.
