"Fourth Frond" Chair

Designer Terence Main American
1991
Not on view
Terence Main's side chair evokes the skeletal structure common to plants and animals, the shape of its seat and back suggesting both leaf forms and rib cages. Every surface of the original chair—even the underside of its seat—had been carved before it was cast in bronze. The design was further accentuated through contrasting areas of polished and patinated bronze.
