The architect Frederick Kiesler commissioned this portrait of himself and his new wife, Lillian. In an artist's questionnaire dated January 5, 1989, Barnet wrote that Kiesler's last request before his death in 1965 was a second version of the double portrait. Kiesler's Last Request, in the National Academy Museum, New York, portrays Kiesler as three times the size of his wife.
