Spine
Joan Livingstone's Spine takes fiber art into three dimensions. The hand-made felt was stiffened with an epoxy resin and sewn with suture thread, creating a sense of bony "humanness." The sculpture is hung horizontally, visually stretching the concept of spine in an unexpected way. Knotted and pulled lengthwise, the spine extends and exaggerates the supine body.
