The vogue for architectural motifs extended to even table decoration. Made of clear, sleek glass, Orme's set of candleholders is both urbane and playful. The set's building-block design is drawn from the step-back, or gradually narrowing, of the uppermost sections of skyscrapers required by law (passed in 1916) to provide for sunlight at street level. The clear geometry and regular proportions of the zigzag contours are characteristics of Art Deco. The individual pieces can be arranged creatively into different configurations.
