Cycladic Form on Square Base

Designer Hans Coper British
ca. 1975
Not on view
Coper's work is strong and monumental; though completely sculptural, his ceramics invariably remain vessels. His abstract Cycladic Form on Square Base evokes an image from antiquity; it is tiny but has a bold and forceful presence. The subtly complex shape of his Thistle Form (MMA 2001.522.2) contrasts with its rough yet delicately nuanced surface texture.
