Kaaterskill Falls for Frank Moore and Dan Hodermarsky (Mass MoCA #11)

Besides writing on his canvases, Hannock began in the 1990s to add elements that had personal significance—collaged papers, magazine illustrations, and painted symbols—into his landscapes. Here, in the naturalistic setting of the Catskill Mountains, he incorporated photographs of tiny figures, an Art in America cover, and a red AIDS ribbon to pay tribute to two deceased friends who both loved and painted waterfalls: Dan Hodermarsky (1924–1999), his first art teacher after prep school, and Hodermarsky's nephew, Frank Moore (1953–2002).
