Chongak Ajaeng

Korean

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 681

This large zither produces a harsh tone that doubles the melody of the haeg?m. It is bowed with a tapered rod of forsythia wood. The ajaeng appeared in Korea during the Koryo dynasty (918-1392), and is probably of Chinese origin.
