On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 681

Found in eastern India and Bangladesh, this drum, protected by elaborate lacings, is used to accompany kirtan, the sacred Vaishnava devotional music. Its name is a variation of hol, a word for drum used in many South Asian regions.
