Fragments depicting Khety in a carrying chair- see 26.3.354-2

Middle Kingdom
ca. 2051–2000 B.C.
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 107
This group of relief fragments comes from the entrance passage of the tomb of Khety, the first recorded royal treasurer (“overseer of what is sealed”) of Mentuhotep II. There are five fragments here, three of which join. Visible is Khety's head, left shoulder, and right hand. He wears a short wig and an elaborate broad collar. The horizontal bar across his body is most likely part of a carrying chair. The raised relief here is elegantly executed, with fine interior detail. Substantial traces of color remain.
