Raised relief fragment of three men with a rope

Late Period, Saite

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130

This fragment of raised relief shows the backs of three overlapping male figures holding a rope. This likely is part of a group of men dragging an object as part of a funerary procession. Traces of mortar on each edge suggest that the fragment was inserted into a scene, perhaps as a replacement for a damaged section.
