Wig fragment

New Kingdom, Ramesside

On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum.
The staggered placement of the curls is typical of the reign of Ramesses II. The tapered lower edge of the wig is similar to that of a statue of Ramesses II in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. This wig was probably part of an over-life-size statue of the same king.
