Scarab decorated with circles
New Kingdom
Not on view
The base of this scarab is decorated with a haphazard composition of circles with a central dot. Circle designs are particularly popular on Middle Kingdom scarabs (ca. 2030-1640 B.C.). This scarab dates to the late New Kingdom (Dynasties 19-20, ca. 1295-1070 B.C.), when decorations with concentric circles are not frequently attested on scarabs but when inspiration was drawn from Middle Kingdom and Second Intermediate Period designs.
