Ostracon

The text includs a list of pigments and in a few cases an indication of their qunatity. The text is written in hieratic with ink, but interestingly, two signs on the recto and two on the verso are carved into the stone. The translation of these terms is not without difficulty, since the terms often refer to a range of material used to produce certain colors, and also since terms for colors are often cultrually specific. The term wAD, for example, is used to describe a blue-green color and such pigments as verdigris, chrysocolla, and very often malachite.
