Mummy Cloth Fragment of Ramesses III

New Kingdom, Ramesside
ca. 1184–1153 B.C.
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130
This small piece of buff linen was used in the wrappings of the mummy of Ramesses III. During the 21st Dynasty, his body was unwrapped, rewrapped, and reburied—moved from his original tomb (KV 11) in the Valley of the Kings to a hidden shaft tomb in the desert valley south of Deir el-Bahri. A recent CT scan has revealed that this king was murdered by having his throat cut
