The piece is part of a group of objects found in tomb V21 at Abydos with two bodies. It was strung with other pieces in the Museum. The group includes 04.18.1–04.18.49.
Excavated at Abydos in 1904 by C. T. Currelly on behalf of the Egypt Exploration Fund. Acquired by the EEF in the division of finds. Donated by the EEF to the Metropolitan Museum in 1904.
