Backed Blade

Probably New Kingdom, Ramesside–Third Intermediate Period

Not on view

This tool was made on a thin, wide flint blade. Small pieces were removed from the right lateral margin, making the edge steeper and less sharp. This was probably done so it could be handled or inset into a wooden haft. Small scars from use or post-depositional processes are present along the left lateral and distal margins. The thinness and sharpness of these edges indicate the tool was most likely utilized for cutting relatively soft materials.
