Not on view

In 1801 Hokusai provided a frontispiece to an album by the ukiyo-e master Chōbunsai Eishi (1756–1829), who elegantly portrayed thirty-six female poets. The frontispiece reveals the lyricism typical of Hokusai's Sōri period, early in his career. The signature reads Gakyōjin Hokusai zu ("painted by the madman of painting, Hokusai").
