Raised Relief Fragment with Place Names

Middle Kingdom

Not on view

The fragment has a horizontal line of hieroglyphs reading from right to left in low raised relief without interior detail. At the top of the piece is a horizontal line with bits of blue color that may be the bottom of a block border at the top of the wall.
The first part of the inscription may refer to those living on islands in general or people of the Aegean more specifically. The signs on the left side of the piece perhaps name either Sesben, a locale in north Syria, or Sesenu, a town of uncertain location. The rounded black object below may represent the full hairstyle of a non-Egyptian likely paying homage to the king, a scene that could accompany an inscription listing foreign place names.
