Linen and mud from interior of Ptah-Sokar-Osiris figure
Ptolemaic Period
Found inside Ptah-Sokar-Osiris figure 21.9.1a–c, these bundles of linen were X-rayed in 2016 and found to contain mud. Found with them, loose in the figure’s body cavity, were grains of wheat and sand. This material was likely meant to assist with the resurrection of the deceased by evoking the yearly agricultural cycle of harvest (death) and new growth (rebirth).
